2006 Ford RANGER - Ratings, Complaints and Recalls

The 2006 Ford Ranger Regular Cab has received mixed safety ratings according to the available data. While it scored a 4 out of 5 for both the front crash driver side and passenger side ratings, it achieved a high score of 5 for the overall side crash driver side rating. However, the rollover ratings were lower, with a 2 out of 5 for rollover and a 3 out of 5 for rollover possibility.

Unfortunately, this model does not come equipped with stability control, forward collision warning, or lane departure warning systems, which are known to enhance vehicle safety. Additionally, there have been 269 complaints reported for this vehicle along with 12 recalls, indicating some potential issues that consumers have experienced.

In conclusion, while the Ford Ranger shows decent performance in some crash tests, the lack of advanced safety features and high number of complaints and recalls suggest that potential buyers should exercise caution and consider these factors when evaluating the overall safety of this vehicle.

2006 Ford Ranger Regular Cab Safety Features

Here are the safety features that come as standard on the 2006 Ford Ranger Regular Cab

Electronic Stability Control (ESC)

ESC is an advanced safety feature in vehicles designed to help drivers maintain control during challenging driving conditions. By continuously monitoring various factors such as steering angle, vehicle speed, and individual wheel speeds, ESC can detect and reduce the risk of skidding or loss of control. It achieves this by automatically applying brakes to specific wheels to stabilize the vehicle.

No
Forward Collision Warning (FCW)

Forward Collision Warning (FCW) is a safety feature in vehicles that helps prevent frontal collisions by alerting the driver of an imminent collision with a vehicle or obstacle ahead. Using sensors such as radar or cameras, FCW monitors the distance and speed of vehicles in front, and if it detects a potential collision, it provides visual and/or auditory warnings to prompt the driver to take evasive action.

No
Lane Departure Warning (LDW)

Lane Departure Warning (LDW) is a safety feature in vehicles that alerts drivers when their vehicle unintentionally drifts out of its lane without signaling. Utilizing cameras or sensors to monitor lane markings on the road, LDW detects when the vehicle crosses these lines and triggers visual, auditory, or haptic alerts to notify the driver of potential lane departure.

Complaint:
"my truck has been to the dealer on a number of occasions. the dealership (access ford, corpus christi, texas) claims that the air bag was replaced. i brought the truck to the dealership in for the airbag issue in january 2017. when i kept receiving notices about the recall and checking the data bases (data bases noted the recall as not completed) i brought the truck back to the dealership in april 2023. again a check of the recall data bases noted that the recall was not completed. during the april 2023 visit the dealership stated that it was a documentation issue and would recheck the air bag part and id number and reenter it into the system. checked the data bases recently and found that the recall was still in effect. called ford corporate customer service and they referred me to the dealership. spoke to a service writer [xxx] at the dealership on june 20,2023 and she stated that there was some issues with their warranty person and would look into the issue and try and get my recall data updated accordingly. as of today (june 26, 2023) checked the data bases and the airbag recall has not been completed. my insurance company is believes that failure to prove that the recall was completed may have a negative effect on my vehicle insurance if an accident occurs. can this confusion be rectified or do i need to take the truck in again to the dealer? (copy of receipts for work done attached.) information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6)."

Complaint:
""takata recall" ford motor company sent me a recall notice early in 2018, telling me that my ranger was undriveable due to high risk takata airbag inflators. the notice told me to contact my dealer, schedule an appointment for recall 18s02 and that they would arrange to have it picked up or towed. i was not to drive it to the dealer. the notice said i would be provided a loaner if needed. i called the nearest ford dealer (great lakes ford in muskegon, mi). i was told by their employee to contact eagle towing and have my car towed to the dealership, which i did. the car was towed to the dealership (after they were closed) and the tow truck driver demanded i pay him and get reimbursement from the dealership. since the dealership had told me to use this tow company and the recall notice said ford would pay for it, i thought getting reimbursed would be easy. wrong. after almost a year and many phone calls, emails and 1 letter to the dealership i have received nothing. today the dealership offered to pay me half of the cost i incurred to have the ranger towed. i refused their offer. i believe it is clearly immoral for ford to tell me to have the vehicle towed for a required recall and then refuse to reimburse me when i did exactly what they told me to do, but i do not know if what they have done to me is illegal. i am writing to the nhtsa to see if there are applicable rules/laws requiring the manufacturer to honor their promise to make repairs required by the nhtsa to my vehicle at no cost to me the owner. thank you, i appreciate your assistance in helping me understand this process which does not (to me) seem to be working the way it should. if it is pertinent, the towing cost $185.40 because it is a sparsely populated farming community and the nearest dealership was over 20 miles away. i did not need and did not request a loaner vehicle. *tr"
