Safety Features

2017 Nissan Murano SUV FWD Safety Features

Here are the safety features that come as standard on the 2017 Nissan Murano SUV FWD

Electronic Stability Control (ESC)

ESC is an advanced safety feature in vehicles designed to help drivers maintain control during challenging driving conditions. By continuously monitoring various factors such as steering angle, vehicle speed, and individual wheel speeds, ESC can detect and reduce the risk of skidding or loss of control. It achieves this by automatically applying brakes to specific wheels to stabilize the vehicle.

Standard
Forward Collision Warning (FCW)

Forward Collision Warning (FCW) is a safety feature in vehicles that helps prevent frontal collisions by alerting the driver of an imminent collision with a vehicle or obstacle ahead. Using sensors such as radar or cameras, FCW monitors the distance and speed of vehicles in front, and if it detects a potential collision, it provides visual and/or auditory warnings to prompt the driver to take evasive action.

Optional
Lane Departure Warning (LDW)

Lane Departure Warning (LDW) is a safety feature in vehicles that alerts drivers when their vehicle unintentionally drifts out of its lane without signaling. Utilizing cameras or sensors to monitor lane markings on the road, LDW detects when the vehicle crosses these lines and triggers visual, auditory, or haptic alerts to notify the driver of potential lane departure.

"car is a safety hazard from october 2022 to current. i have had this car at the beau townsend nissan dealership service center, vandalia, oh multiple times, about the safety issue of the car slowing down with floor acceleration then shutting off on 4 lane highways just barely escaping severe accidents. each time dealership isn’t able to fix issue, had me spend $800 to fix what they thought it was, reset codes which has not fixed the safety issue. latest issue occurred 4/27/23 traveling on 3 lane highway in middle lane 3 hours from my home at 70 mph speed limit. car abruptly started slowing down without cause, and almost created a bad accident. luckily, i was able to get the car to the right narrow shoulder strip before it shut off, police came to assist with keeping me safe in my vehicle until i could have the vehicle towed 3 hours back to beau townsend nissan for more diagnostics. i opened a case with nissan consumer affairs prior to this last safety incident and to date nothing has been done. i have multiple documentation with the dealership about my car being a safety risks to me (senior citizen) and others on the road. the only people to date that seem to understand the safety severity this involves are the highway police and towing services who have provided me safety every time the car shuts down abruptly while traveling. i’m reaching out to you in hope that this concern can be addressed before you learn about me and possibly others in a fatality situation. thank you in advance for any help you can provide in this matter. yes, i’m available for inspection of the safety concern specific to my vehicle."

"the sunroof/moonroof drain tubes stop up and leak down the interior door frame and also into the floorboard of the car regularly. i have been in contact with nissan regional and they tell me its a maintenance problem. i read through the owners manual multiple times and nowhere does it mention sunroof drain tubes or anything related to sunroof drains. it does not mention it in the maintenance portion of the book or anywhere else. the issue with it leaking into the car is mold. this is a design flaw by nissan, and unless a nissan dealership submits it to nissanusa as a design flaw, nothing can be done. obviously a dealership will not submit it because they can make $159 each time a customer comes in to have those lines unclogged. never buy a nissan with a sunroof!!!!!! mine has leaked into my car four times since 2021. it has flooded and molded my entire interior."

"i purchased this used vehicle on 4/4/20 and during a test drive the unavailable front radar obstruction came on and they stated it was because we were close to other cars. the sensor kept going off with nothing around while driving so took it to local nissian dealer and they diagnosed it as a bad sensor which is about $1400 to repair. asked nissian to pay as a goodwill gesture and they denied it. i purchased an extended warranty which will not cover it. as explained to the selling dealership and nissian corporate this is a safety hazard and i should not be held responsible for repairing the sensor. whenever the car is in motion the sensor goes off..about 8-10 during a 12 mile trip. i need help with this sensor. the selling dealership knew this was faulty and so does nissian and no one will help. this is placing my life and other drivers at risk. please help...."

"a friend brought this to my attention july 2, 2020. vehicle's catching fire, going up in flames, terrified to drive my car. i sent this message to nissan via email, all social media and direct messaging and was told someone would contact me but i have not heard from anyone. i was given a case number i have since move my car parked in front of the house phone on the street because we do have oxygen in the house for my mother whose on hospice and i'm on disability. see attachment image of response from nissanusa via messenger on facebook. i haven't received anything regarding this recall and my car is parked in the garage.vin [xxx] this is terrifying, my daughter's room is on that side of the house and i have an 86 yr mother with dementia and my own medical issues. i chose this car for the leg room and to transport my mom. it was purchased from central autohaus, richardson, texas. please click on the link and read it. https://www.click2houston.com/consumer/2020/07/02/nearly-400000-vehicles-on-the-road-could-catch-fire-and-there-is-no-fix-for-the-problem/ watch "nissan murano owners says manufacturer has been unhelpful after vehicles catch fire" on youtube https://youtu.be/soagqpc5m_e information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr"

Complaint:
"while driving with the cruise control engaged on my 2017 nissan murano, a message appears on dash: unavailable front radar obstruction. the cruise control disengages at that point, requiring the driver to use the accelerator. at that point, i think the automatic braking is also disabled. the car currently has about 38000 miles on it and is 2 years old. the frequency of the problem has increased over time. i checked to make sure the sensor at the front bumper is clean. this error will happen on days with no rain or snow. at first, it errored when exiting a tunnel, but now it occurs randomly (but so far only when using cruise control). since it is over the 36000 mile warranty, nissan requires a diagnosis from the dealer. this is a safety problem that should have a recall. i also recently rented a 2018 nissan altima while on vacation, and it was really bad. it errored about every 5 minutes, even without cruise control. nissan has a recall for the rogue model. according to information on the internet, the problem is a sensor manufactured by bosch."

"forward radar which controls the automatic braking system and cruise control stops working for no reason - states radar not available, obstruction, when the car is in motion. unit has been replaced once and just starting not working again. when this happens the cruise control goes off and the car slows down quickly. this is a real safety concern for cars behind you as brake lights do not come on warning that you are slowing down."

Complaint:
"driving down an open paved county road, driving straight at around 60 mpg. no cars in sight, no trees or building near the road and we heard what sounded like a gunshot inside the vehicle. we looked around and couldn't tell what happened. i looked up and there was a hole in the center of the moonroof then glass started falling. my kids in the backseat had more glass than the front. the glass that was remaining was curved up which seamed strange because no one touched the roof. we have a panoramic moonroof but it was only the movable piece exploded. roof and windows were closed, it was 85 degrees outside and we had the air conditioning on. i called nissan and opened an incident and they denied any responsibility stating glass isn't covered and since there is no evidence showing it exploded and wasn't hit they are not liable. i have full coverage glass insurance so i wouldn't have to pay either way it is the point that this is not my fault and after looking at all of the same issues with these glass roofs it should be the responsibility of the car manufacturer."
