"the contact's husband owned a 2020 nissan titan. the contact stated while her husband was driving 65-75 mph, he noticed a smoke odor. the contact's husband veered to the side of the road and immediately exited the vehicle. the contact's husband saw flames between the cabin and the rear of the vehicle. the vehicle became engulfed in fire. the contact's husband attempted to extinguish the fire with fire extinguishers and sustained significant burns on both hands. additionally, the contact's husband sustained bruises on the left leg. the fire department assisted the contact's husband in extinguishing the fire. the contact's husband received medical assistance and was advised to follow up with a primary care doctor and a burn specialist. a police report was filed. the vehicle was towed to a tow yard, where it was totaled. the contact related the failure to an unknown recall that was completed on the vehicle in february, 2023. the local dealer and a second dealer, abc nissan (1300 e camelback rd, phoenix, az 85014), were notified of the failure. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 60,000."

"nissan north america, inc. (nissan) is recalling certain 2020-2022 frontier and titan vehicles. the transmission parking pawl may not engage when the vehicle is shifted into park, which can result in a vehicle rollaway."
Consequence:
A vehicle rollaway increases the risk of a crash.
Remedy:

Owners are advised to apply the parking brake every time they park their vehicle. Dealers will replace the transmission parking pawl pin, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed November 2022. Owners may contact Nissan's customer service at 1-800-867-7669. Nissan's number for this recall is R22A2 R22A3.

Owner notification letters were mailed October 28, 2022. Owners may contact Nissan's customer service at 1-800-867-7669.
