Complaint:
"on 14 nov 2020, i called coggins toyota, in jacksonville, florida in regards to a recall on leaf springs for my 2010 tacoma. per the recall remedy on their website, "toyota will replace the leaf springs with newly designed ones." the supervisor at coggins (jenny, i believe) told me the remedy would only be implemented if the defect can be physically identified via inspection, regardless of what it says on their recall web site. she refused to implement the remedy in spite of the risk factors, which include possible fire involving the fuel tank. toyota should be required to mitigate the hazard, not wait for it to present itself and cause harm or death. per the toyota recall website: vin: [xxx] year: 2010 make: toyota model: tacoma recall date: september 29, 2014 manufacturer recall number: e02 description; the subject vehicles' rear suspension system contains leaf springs that are constructed of either three or four leaves. there is a possibility that a leaf could fracture due to stress and corrosion. if this occurs and the vehicle continues to be operated, the broken leaf could move out of position and contact surrounding components, including the fuel tank. safety risk: if the broken leaf contacts the fuel tank repeatedly, it could puncture the tank and cause a fuel leak. in the presence of an ignition source, this could result in a fire. remedy: toyota will replace the leaf springs with newly designed ones. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr"
