"the contact owns a 2010 ford crown victoria. the contact stated while driving at various speeds, excessive force was needed to steer the vehicle as an unknown warning light illuminated on the instrument panel. the contact also stated that the gear oil would leak from the rear passenger side of the vehicle. the contact took the vehicle to an independent mechanic where he had the brake pads and calipers on the rear passenger’s side of the vehicle replaced; however, the failure persisted. the contact called the dealer and was informed that the vehicle was included in nhtsa campaign number: 13v385000 (steering). the contact was informed that parts needed to be ordered to perform the recall repair. the contact had not received a call back for the repair. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 140,000"

"tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford crown victoria. the contact stated that while her fianc was driving about 70 mph and getting off a ramp, the steering shaft fractured inside the steering column, without warning, and caused the vehicle to crash into a curb and stopped in a grassy area. the contact was concerned that the crash could have resulted in a crash with an eighteen wheeler driving next to the vehicle at the time of the failure. the front passenger's side was vehicle was damaged. the air bag did not deploy and no injury was reported. the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the steering shaft fractured. the contact called the al packer's white marsh ford dealer (443-777-5000, located at 9801 pulaski hwy, middle river, md 21220) and was told that there was no recall. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and provided a case number, stating that there was no recall. the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign numbers: 14v704000 and 13v385000 (steering). the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was approximately 130,000."

"ford motor company (ford) is recalling certain model year 2005-2011 ford crown victoria, 2005-2011 mercury grand marquis vehicles manufactured march 23, 2004, to august 30, 2011, and 2005-2011 lincoln town car vehicles manufactured march 8, 2004, to august 30, 2011, and on which the upper intermediate shaft was serviced during the course of safety recall 13v-385. the prior repairs may not have been correctly performed."
Consequence:
Improper servicing of the upper intermediate shaft could cause the shaft to separate, which can then result in a loss of steering control, and increasing the risk of a crash.
Remedy:

Ford will notify the owners of vehicles whose repair records reflect that the upper intermediate steering shaft was repaired during the course of the prior recall 13V-385. Dealers will inspect and replace the upper immediate shaft if necessary free of charge. The recall began November 17, 2014. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 14S25.
